Date Night

I'm just wondering why I have so many searches for "broken toe"? I must have someone coming here every few days . Are there that many people with broken toes???

Scott H had a birthday party sleepover last night so Scott and I got a rare night out...alone! We usually end up just going to dinner then home since most times we need to pick Scott H up by a certain time. Last night he was going to be gone all night, so we decided to actually go out and do something.

Scott and I have never really been out on a real date. Since we met when my kids were teens and adding Scott's travel schedule to that...we never really got time to do "dates". We would go out to eat and I went with him when he traveled some times, but we never went out dancing or even to the movies. Since his job is movies really (he isntalls and maintains the projection and sound systems for movie theaters) he never really likes going to see movies. He tends to pick the presentation apart while sitting there so he doesn't enjoy it. Once Scott H hit the age where he wanted to see movies, he would take him, but it isn't something we do as a night out. We also have never danced together. We got married in Nashville and no one else was there so there...and Scott was so sick...so there was no real celebrating. He was out of town when Chrissy and John got married and the company he was working for would not let him come home...so we never got to dance then either. We have talked about going out to The Broken Spoke, a local Dancehall and an Austin landmark, but we never had a sitter once we had the money.

Well, last night we went! They have a restaurant there as well as the dancehall so we got there early enough to eat dinner, then went into the dancehall once the doors opened. The live music started at 9 and the doors opened at 8..so we sat and watched the band set up and talked a little. I have no idea how to do the Two-Step. I love country music, but never learned. It wasn't a big thing in NJ when I was growing up, and once Country was popular up there, I was raising three kids and never had the time to go to clubs. Scott had learned when he was younger but hadn't done in in about 25 years, so we watched the dance instructor there showing someone how to do it then watched the other people once the band started playing and everyone got up to dance.

Scott finally grabbed my hand and said, "Let's Go!" I was scared since I usually can catch onto things fast, but need to try it a while first. I was afraid I would get in someone's way or walk into someone..so the first time we sort of just did a shuffle step sort of thing. It was fun but I was nervous. I sat watching everyone for a while longer..but everyone was doing it differently. Scott grabbed me again and showed me the basic step and off we went. I did better..and we danced several times throughout the night. I had so much fun! We laughed every time we messed up..and he tried to get me to do a turn, but all we did was walk into each other and laughed again. I wish we could do it more often! There was this one older couple...they were so handsome together and so in step..they looked like they did it all the time and had a blast doing it. I loved getting out by ourselves and being able to just enjoy each other and laugh together. We really need to find a way to do it more often...especially now that we'll have some extra money coming in.

I ended up subbing two days in one of the 3 year old classes this past week...I worked Wednesday and Thursday from 7:30 AM until 6 PM with a short break at about 1. Then Friday morning I made my last shopping trip...and while I was finishing at WalMart, Brittney called to see if I could stay when I got back because her son (he is in our class) had a temp and she had to leave. I finished up at the other store then took the stuff back, put it away and headed over to the cafeteria to meet up with my class since they were finishing lunch. Sara, the coteacher (who will be the lead teacher in the fall with me) was out sick so one of the 4 year old teachers that doesn't work during the summer was subbing for her. Thursday Sara had been out too and since I was in a different class they had someone else cover for her until I was back at 2. I then stayed in my room till 3 then headed back over to the 3's class where Sara works on Thursday afternoons to cover for her.

My kids went over to the 2 year old class altough the twos and threes are together anyway from 3:00 on. The poor Ducks (my regular class) were so confused by Friday that when I got to the playground, they all ran over to me to be picked up. The one little girl...who is almost always my shadow anyway...started crying and grabbed my finger...she had a death grip on it. Since I got in at 8:30 for shopping on Friday then went right into my class...it was another long day for me. I did run home when the kids went to sleep to grab my water bottle and something to eat. I was gone maybe 15 minutes. The 4 year old teacher wasn't used to a bunch of two year olds (and I was afraid if they woke to a stranger they'd be upset) so I wanted to make sure I was there if they woke up early. they all went right to sleep and slept until almost 2:30! A miracle since there is always someone who takes forever to drop off and someone who wakes by 2. It was a nice rest for us too. The afternoon the ones who stay late were with me so it was normal for them and they were fine. Sara will be out this week to but Britt should be in all week so they should be OK.

Tomorrow starts my new schedule..even though I work regular hours tomorrow. I'll still go into my class in the afternoon on Monday and Wednesday, but will go in to the two's class at 8 on Tuesday, Thursday and Friday. On those days I go to my class at 3 still though. Being in two classes breaks the day up so it doesn't seem so long, but I am sure I will be tired until I get used to it. Today was my first Sunday without doing nursery and it was strange. Some of the kids were upset, and Scott H's Math teacher who has the twins had been out of town all summer. The kids are two and love Scott H. They had talked to them on the way in...telling them that they were going to see Ms Denise and Scott..then they got there and I wasn't there. The boy got upset..but between the services I walked Scott H over (he'd seen his teacher and wanted to go see the kids) so he could stay and help Stephanie and play with the twins. The boy was still crying and didn't want me or Scott H at first, but Scott H said he calmed down after I left for church. They didn't know yet about my promotion but once they heard they were all hugs and congrats to me. Scott will have the wife this year as a teacher. They are both teachers there..the hubby was in 4th grade and she taught 2nd, but this year she is moving to 5th to 8th grade Spanish. They both love Scott H and the kids do too.

I can't wait until I start with the 2's class on Tuesday. It's water day so I get to play in the water with them. I think this week is the slip and slides and the two small pools. The two's go out after the tods so it will still be pretty early and hopefully not too hot yet. Last week the fire ants came out and several teachers and kids got bitten. I hope they stay away this week. The custodians treated the courtyard after the kids were gone last week so hopefully they are all gone. It has been so dry and with the water all over out there during water time, they all came swarming out. :::shudder:::

Guess that is about it from here. Hope y'all had a great weekend. I sure did!! Have a Peachy Day!
